Bougainvillea 'Sophia' is a highly ornamental variety known for its distinctive multicolored gradient bracts and refined, elegant flower form. Its layered pink, white, and purple tones create a watercolor-like effect as the blooms open, making it especially eye-catching and unique among bougainvillea varieties.
As the bracts mature, the colors continue to shift—showing outer purple tones with inner pink hues at full bloom, then gradually deepening into darker pink accented by soft lavender in the later stage. The flowers are compact and cup-shaped, with thick bracts and a slightly outward-curving edge, giving them a delicate yet structured appearance. Each bloom remains ornamental for approximately 28–32 days.
This variety is considered a medium to high free-flowering type, typically blooming 3–4 times per year, with a total ornamental period of about 190–210 days annually. Its primary flowering season spans spring, summer, and fall, producing dense, abundant blooms during peak cycles, making it an excellent choice for both garden planting and container display.
