This species is found in northern Sumatra at low elevations, where it grows as a small to medium-sized, hot-growing epiphyte. It has pendent, terete stems that narrow at the base and turn violet reddish-brown with age. The stems carry many dark green, deciduous, ovate-oblong leaves that narrow towards the apex and are unequally bidentate at the tip. The plant blooms in the summer on a thin, 1.3 to 1.75 cm long inflorescence, arising from the nodes of leafless stems, with 3 flowers per inflorescence.
