Dendrobium ostrinum, native to New Guinea, grows in lowland and hill forests at elevations around 200 meters. It is a medium to large, hot-growing epiphyte with slender, elongated stems and fleshy, oblong to lance-shaped leaves. The plant blooms in the fall with a short, two-flowered inflorescence that emerges laterally from the stem through a small spathe. The flowers are short-lived, making it a unique but fleeting display.
